Human Rights lawyer Dona Hariri will be the year’s conference during the Swedish Forum for Human Rights, the Nordic region’s largest human rights forum, held in Jönköping 9-11 November.

“I think it is a very honorable assignment that I treat with great respect. My role in place is to lift the people who attend and pay homage to the efforts and struggle they pursue for human rights, “said Dona Hariri about the mission.

Dona Hariri herself came to Sweden as a three year old with her family who moved from Iraq. She grew up in Österängen in Jönköping and quickly gained a social commitment and interest in law. After her law degree, she has started legal advice in the Stockholm suburb of Husby, and has been the program leader of UR production Justitia, a program that explains and simplifies the law for young people. During the refugee wave in autumn 2015, Dona started the Jurist initiative at Stockholm Central Station. For 220 days she was at the central station and helped new arrivals with rights advice. “With our strong commitment to human rights, we are very pleased to announce her as the year’s hostess,” says Caroline Matsson, Project Manager for Human Rights Days.
